Agreed, a pet shouldn't be used as an assisting combatant. However, I do like the sound of it helping with missions or something or it could just follow you around like how my Cyndaquil did in HeartGold and SoulSilver versions .

I like this tourney idea, but there shouldn't be placement system in my opinion, the Seven Swordsmen should all be on equal footing. Maybe each player should gain 15 points, when they do, they get to choose any sword of their choice. Any others who gains 15 points will have the option to choose any free sword or fight for an already held sword, if they lose that fight for that sword they should lose 10 of these tournament points and have to work their way back to the top.

Squads being selected by Kages does seem troublesome, now on the other hand choosing to squad with friends when you want to go on missions seems more plausible. I know some people like to play solo as I do myself sometimes, people getting to play solo as well is always good. Though for Chuunins there should be mandatory squads to get past the forest of death and hey who knows maybe even allow it so your own squad members can kill you or vice-versa in the Forest of Death for Self-Preservation.

I like the idea of summons being used for certain purposes and only a limited amount of summons per person. Based on the Manga/Anime only Nagato has been shown to have more than 2 type of animals/creatures if I am correct. So make it that at a certain level you may pick 1 and depending on what you pick you can or cant pick another depending on what it is. For example if I get a high enough level and choose Slugs as my first contract, Slugs would be my primary and I could use them to heal myself and comrades, but because I chose Slugs I can't have summons such as Toads as my secondary and instead I could have Ninja Dogs for tracking as my secondary. Different animal summon serving different purposes sounds like fun, but proper cooldowns for all of them will make the game seem more natural.
