I hate to sound uncaring but this is tactics at work. What would a ninja game be without that kind of thing? A game where everyone is always on the same playing field, and no one has advantages or disadvantages... a game where the map is the same all the time, where everyone has an equal chance... that's not a ninja game at all. There's ways around it, there's ways to beat it, but sometimes the best option is to retreat.
